Stuttgart Cannstatter Volksfest 2023: Ruined by Devil Rock but maybe I can Break Dance?

A big fair, close to Munich and with five creds. Oh go on then!  My friend and I flew into Stuttgart the previous evening, luckily the thought of creds, German beer and fair rides was enough to overcome the tiredness! Just a side note, creds is a term I’ll use a lot. A cred is a coaster credit and I count coaster credits. Hope that makes sense, let’s get back to it.  The 176th Cannstatter Volksfest First things first, I was hungry. Time for a traditional German snack Mit senf of course Then it was cred time! The 1964 Schwarzkopf Wild Cat coaster, Rock & Roller Coaster (Cred number 526) was a fun coaster to start the trip on. The first drop was good and provided a decent amount of air time.  Next up was a strange ride indeed. Spuk (527) looks more like a ghost train than a coaster, but after riding it I wasn’t sure what to make of it. The coaster elements, basically a couple of drops, made it feel coaster enough for me to count it. The ghost train elements were not really on par wi

Top Cambridge Pubs: The Royal Standard - Chouffe Party!

The natural thing to do after finishing your third night shift, is to go and drink lots of strong and delicious Belgian beer right? Well it’s what I chose to do. Honestly, this isn’t a pub I visit often enough, and I have no excuse, I walk past it a lot. Situated in the Romsey area of Mill Road, The Royal Standard boasts Cambridge’s largest selection of Belgian beers, and plenty of English beers served on cask and keg! I must admit, although I like Belgian beers (I’ve tried 110), I’ve never quite understood the love for them. Perhaps a Chouffe Party is just what I needed.  I had the honour of being the first person there, which meant I to got to be the first to play the party games! More on those later on.  A very well stocked bar of Belgian beers I started on the McChouffe, a strong and dark Belgian ale. It was delicious. A full on malty taste with some smooth caramel in the aftertaste. This was my favourite of the Chouffe beers.  Me and my dad on our first drink of the night. It was

Away Days 23/24 Wigan: We’re Cambridge United, we’ll sing on our own.

A  disgustingly early start on a Saturday usually means one thing, an away day!  It was a misty morning as I pulled into the car park at The Abbey, ahead of a long bus journey to Wigan. I always take a moment to look over the glorious Abbey pitch and reflect on all of the great, and not so great memories, that I have of here.  I then headed round to the front of the ground, met a couple of mates and at 08:30 we were off! I immediately got my pre made coffee on the go!  Once we were roughly over half way there we stopped at the ever tedious Norton Canes services. Here we were joined by supporters of Manchesters United and City, Brighton, Oxford and Barnet (including Barnet’s team). It was packed and has few options for refreshments. A coffee and hash brown from a well known American chain followed:  Back on the road we hit the traffic. We moved at a snails place into Wigan, past two fire safety firms opposite a discount fireworks shop….  We arrived to the ground at approximately 14:00,

Best Beer Destinations: Põhjala Brewery & Tap Room - Tallinn, Estonia.

A  30 minute(ish) walk from the cobbles of Tallinn’s glorious Old Town to a more residential suburb, took me towards a major tick off of my beer bucket list. Even the rain couldn’t dampen my excitement to visit Põhjala!  Famed for their Imperial Stouts and Baltic Porters, I simply couldn’t visit Tallinn without visiting here. I also hoped it would live up to my high expectations, to justify making my friends walk out here when Põhala have a tap room in the city centre. We only had time for one.  What an entrance! The taproom is situated up a couple of flights of stairs and is one of the best looking tap rooms I’ve visited! Of course I neglected to take a photo… I am hoping that writing this blog will make me take more photos… I did however get this nerd shot: Onto the beers! Põhjala offer thirds (great success!) meaning in total I tried 14 beers of the 24 available on tap. Some were tasters of my friend’s beers. The taproom is Untappd verified and has screens to display the beer lists.

Why I’ve decided to start a blog

So why have I started a blog? The short answer is that I’m doing it for myself. The longer answer is for a few reasons. Over the past year I’ve been doing a fair amount of writing, for an advanced course at work and I’ve enjoyed writing for the first time. I’ve come to realise that writing is something that I would like to get better at. I’d also like to document what I get up to, from football away days, to theme park trips, to beer trips and maybe even other things! I’m also hoping that doing this will force me to take more photos, something I always forget to do.  Is this something I’ll forget to do or give up on in a month’s time? Maybe. But I’m going to try! I’m also not doing this for financial gain, but if you fancy giving me a big bag of money for writing about something then I’ll likely do it. Where does the name Beer Moose come from? Is it linked to Cambridge United having Marvin The Moose as a mascot? Well I like beer and from an early age my sister called me Moose, it kind
