Away Days 26/27: Bromley and Bermondsey

Away days are back! Cambridge kicked off their away campaign at Bromley, somewhere we had been just a few months prior at the tail end of the previous season. A tough, physical and yet winnable game awaited us just outside of the capital.  I met up with John and DJ at Kings Cross and we headed straight to London Victoria via the Victoria line. Here we had lunch and some pints at The Willow Walk, which I initially thought was a new spoons tick for me! Turns out I’d been there before.  A pint of Oakham Sun City and a curry was just the job We spoke to some fellow U’s fans before heading to Bromley and there was excitement amongst the fan base. Bromley’s stadium is a short walk from Bromley South station but you must get there early. Bromley have learned nothing from last season and the whole operation is chaotic and slow. We always aim to arrive at grounds in good time but several fans missed kick off due to queues to get in. This was apparently caused by faulty ticket sc...

Away Days 25/26: Promotion Party? - Crewe

How time flies. It only feels like yesterday I was writing the blog for the first away day of the season at Swindon and now I’m writing about the last away day! Going into the final weekend of the season Cambridge were in third place, the last automatic promotion spot. There were 27 possible scenarios that could have occurred and in those Cambridge would be promoted in 19 of them. This is my take on Cambridge United’s winner takes all last game of the season, I hope you enjoy it.  The day before. I made my way up to Stockport where I met Rach, Liz and John. We tried a few beers to settle the nerves. I was already nervous and was changing my mind about whether we were going to win promotion or not. Me and Rach had a beer in a Robinsons pub but I forgot to take any photos there so we start at Thread. John made a mess From Thread we walked about 50 feet to Produce Hall to get some food.  The garlic chilli chicken was delicious! From here we headed to Fell. Quite a lot of be...

Away Days 25/26: A Mega Weekend In Manc, Accrington & Stockport.

Welcome to another blog! This instalment is a combination of an away day and northern beer blog, so there’s a lot to get through!  I travelled up north on the Friday afternoon and met Rach at Sureshot, where we enjoyed some of Sureshot’s 4th birthday beers! From here it would have been rude not to visit Cloudwater and Track too, so we did. I like Cloudwater beer a lot but there’s something I just don’t love about their taproom and I can’t put my finger on it. No there’s not a Peterborough United clock… Track however is one of my favourite taprooms. Here I enjoyed the Spezial, Festbier, which was stunning. Festbier is such a difficult style to get right and Track have aced it. We were getting hungry so made our way to Bundobust on Oxford Road. They had a new menu on which included some Chinese inspired dishes. The food here is excellent but is all veggie and I do miss meat… I washed the food down with their lager and centennial hopped NEIPA.  Our next stop was old fave w...
