Moose On The Loose: Manchester - February 2024: This Is The One

Manchester is probably the most diverse beer city in The UK. It’s got traditional pubs, taprooms and trendy ‘craft’ places, the vast majority of places I’ve been in Manchester have been excellent! This is the story of my second pub trip to Manchester and I’m joined by legend of blog, Rach!  The trip started with a massive error, and it’s not having a night out before an away day, because that is always a good idea. It is using trains. I should have driven, still I got do my first delay and repay. Anyway, on to the beer!  We started at Hops & Boogie, as we needed to do some shopping in Sale.  The Squawk Porter went done a treat!  We then hopped on the tram and headed towards a strong contender for best taproom in The UK, Track.  Rainbow beer board! My least fave type of glass Track’s taproom is spacious, light and has good seating options. Oh and great beer! What more could you want?  Living my best life. We then headed to another taproom, Sureshot.  I thought Northerners were imm

Thank You Neil Harris

I’m gutted to see Harris go, but if I was in his position I’d do exactly the same.  Seeing the club, that you love in trouble is hard. It’s especially hard when you can do little about it. However, that’s not the position Neil Harris is in. Millwall are currently in the Championship relegation places, and clearly don’t fancy a couple of league games against the mighty Cambridge next season (should we stay up). Millwall have acted today and sacked their manager. Harris is nothing short of a legend at Millwall, he’s their all time top goal scorer and had a successful stint as manager there. Harris clearly has a real affinity with Millwall, and I don’t think anyone can blame him for leaving us to help Millwall in their hour of need. I would drop everything to help Cambridge, but I very much doubt I’ll be asked to be the new manager.  Harris’ departure has come at a pretty much the worst time that it could have. Saturday 24th February, we host some dodgy team from up the A1. It’s looking l

Away Days 23/24. Carlisle: My First Away Win For 2 Years!

As you probably know by now, I love an away day. Visiting new places, new pubs and watching Cambridge win… but it had been two long years since I last saw an away win. Surely, this curse had to end someday! In those two years, I’d been to 19 away games. I was beginning to think that I was the problem. The 19 games are as follows; Exeter, Blackburn, Charlton, Wycombe, Derby, Wigan, Leyton Orient, Sutton, Burton, Bolton, Milton Keynes, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Curzon Ashton, Pish, Ipswich, Cheltenham, Charlton (again) and Oxford.  I headed to Manchester on the Friday, to meet with Rach and have a night out (blog coming soon). After a heavy night, Saturday was a rude and coffeeless awakening. We didn’t have time to grab a coffee before our train to Carlisle. Fear not, we soon got our coffee fix upon arriving to Carlisle. It was then time to see the sights!  We didn’t pay to go into Carlisle Castle, but it was good to have a look at the outside. We then headed towards the cathedral

In Search Of The Best Guinness In Cambridge: Part 4 - A New Hope?

With so many venues owned by the big empire (Greene King), finding Guinness away from said empire is getting harder and harder. Luckily this band of rebels are well versed at both avoiding these places or sneaking in quickly, to sample the Guinness. This latest instalment of the Guinness challenge, brings a mixture of both empire bases and other venues.  We kick things off at The Maypole, which is one of my favourite pubs. The beer selection here is one of the best around, with a focus on local breweries. The food is up there with my favourite food in Cambridge. This was my first time trying a Guinness here.  The offer of a Guinness challenge tick was even too much for Nathan to resist, a man who normally drinks ciders and sours. The Maypole Guinness was a solid effort, 3.5/5.  Recently I got an offer that I couldn’t refuse. Friend of the blog, DJ, got me into an exclusive club. Guinness seemed to be the most popular drink, at The Cambridge United Supporters club. I was able to enjoy

“Emily Is There A Break Dance In Calais!?” First Visit To Plopsaland De Panne

Apparently I’m louder than I realise. When I bellowed, Emily is there a Break Dance in Calais? From the K3 queue line, it was heard by both Emilys on this trip. That’s despite one Emily being the other side of the theme park. Never mind! At least people can always hear me. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get some creds in Belgium!  Let’s start from the beginning. I woke up at 03:30 and was on the road by 4, disgusting. It was however nice to drive without any traffic. Collecting enthusiasts along the way to Ashford, we eventually pilled into Tom’s seven seater bus and got on the train bound to go through the euro tunnel. Plospaland is only around 40 minutes from Calais and we met the other car there. 10 goons, one ride to happiness?  Ride To Happiness (549):  Don’t look in her eyes, you might fall and find the love of your life Touted by many enthusiasts as one of Europe’s best coasters, I was uber excited to ride! I went back row for my first ride. Sadly the onboard audio
