Away Days 24/25: New York Stadium, NYS, Pretty Mean When It Wants To Be: Rotherham

A Tuesday night away day to Rotherham gave me the chance to do two things, firstly use lyrics from a Ramones song written (and also recorded) by Lemmy from Motörhead as a blog title and to gain an all important ground tick.  Setting off from Cambridge at around three o’clock there was a strange confidence in the air, especially following a long awaited win against Mansfield! The journey up was uneventful and included a stop at Leicester Forrest East which must be my most visited service station, not that I’m keeping count. After consuming a well known fried chicken brand meal we started the second leg of the journey and arrived in Rotherham around an hour prior to kick off.  Annoyingly it’s not possible to get a better photo  After a very thorough security pat down, remember this point for later, we entered the ground and grabbed a pint. Carlsberg was the cheapest pint at £5! Kronenbourg was £5.85 but that muck is even worse than Carlsberg! Guinness was an eye wate...

Moose On The Loose In Cologne!

Cologne’s combination of beautiful architecture and amazing Kolsch beer make it one of my all time favourite cities. Having failed to visit Cologne in 2024, I knew what my first trip of 2025 had to be. I was joined by Aaron and Liz for a very early flight out of Stansted Airport. I’d promised Aaron and Liz a quick tour of my favourite beer destinations of Cologne.  Arriving in Cologne around lunchtime, we dumped our bags in a very reasonably priced locker and headed towards our first beer destination. We took a moment to admire the beautiful of Cologne Cathedral, almost hidden behind the frozen fog.  A short walk behind the cathedral leads to: Früh has never been my favourite Kolsch, but I wanted to show the others this amazing venue. I believe it is the only historical Cologne beer hall to completely survive the bomb attacks of the Second World War. Though don’t google that, as I may be wrong!  Prost!  I normally find Früh Kolsch too sweet, but I actually rea...

Beer Moose Reviews: BrewBoard

The lovely people at BrewBoard were kind enough to gift me four of their flagship beers to taste and review! A quick disclaimer before I start. I love doing beer reviews and obviously these beers were given to me for free, but I am writing about my honest opinions. I will not say nice or positive things just because I’m given free beer. The beer has to earn the praise. Let’s get started with a little intro to BrewBoard. Operating since 2017, BrewBoard has become a welcome addition to the Cambridge beer scene. Their rise in popularity has coincided with their beers becoming more prevalent in pubs in and around Cambridge. Given that the pub scene in Cambridge is dominated by large chains, this is an impressive feat for a small and family run brewery. In late 2024, BrewBoard opened a taproom on Peas Hill Cambridge. It’s become a staple beer venue in central Cambridge. A place with a great range of draft and canned beers. Me and Nathan call in for a pint! Brewboard also sponsor my be...

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...
