How Do You Solve A Problem Like Hyperia? Thorpe Park

I was feeling rather basic about not having ridden Hyperia yet. The 200+ foot tall Mack Hypercoaster would look great on my coaster spreadsheet, I thought. Therefore myself and friend of the blog Aaron made the trip to Surrey.  It took me almost three hours to reach Thorpe Park from Cambridge, the M25 was not playing ball for a change…  Once inside the park we headed towards Nemesis Inferno for a front row ride. I’d ridden several B&M inverts since my last ride on Inferno and I was excited to see what I thought of it now. It’s a bottom tier invert. Not particularly big and not very forceful.  Here’s a really old photo I found. Hyperia had now opened and we headed straight there. Thorpe Park’s newest coaster has been plagued by issues since opening and seems to never have a good run of operational days. Just a few days before our visit Hyperia had an issue which closed it, we even debated cancelling our visit because we didn’t wish to visit and find the coaster ...

Moose On The Loose: Have I Found The Best Ever Crisp Flavour? Manchester.

Join me for another pub trip around Manchester! We will swing by some old favourites and potentially make some new ones! Really this is part one of the three part series, but part two is already released so let’s get to it! I headed straight for Track as soon as I made it off of the train at Manchester Piccadilly. Track is one of my all time favourite taprooms! I opted for the Aspern and Navigator. Aspern is a Vienna style lager and was really nice. Navigator is an Irish Dry style stout and whilst it was ok, I found it a bit sweet for my taste. Beers dispatched it was time for a trip round the corner to another old favourite!  Sureshot is another brilliant taproom! What Did I Say Roy? A west coast pale that really hit the dream spot of lingering bitterness and refreshment. We didn’t have far to go for the next pint!  Balance Taproom is almost next door to Sureshot! Balance specialise in fruited beers which aren’t really my thing, so I had a lager from Utopian Brewing. Ra...

Away Days 24/25: Is It Over? Wigan

Welcome to the first instalment of a three blog series from the Northwest! I had a great weekend, football aside, visiting Manchester, Wigan and Stockport. This should really be the second part of this series, where’s the fun in doing things in the correct order?  We made the short train journey from Manchester to Wigan. Rach had found us a bakery to grab a pie or Wigan Kebab but I was distracted by a sign saying taproom. We had time so called in for a beer! Except  what we actually did was walk into a pub, rather than the planned taproom!  Wigan Central was great! A pint and lime soda cost £4!  The US Session was crisp, fresh and super tasty! A 10/10 pint. As we enjoyed our drinks I had a renewed sense of optimism that Cambridge were going to win today. We started making our to the ground and stopped at the bakery Rach found for lunch. Rolling Pin Bakery. This was easily one of the best pies I’ve ever had!  Marvin was also after a pie! My renewed optimis...

Moose On The Loose: Behind Enemy Lines In Peterborough!

Ah Peterborough, a place frequently voted as one of the top three worst places to live in The UK and home to my least favourite football team. It would actually be quite easy to write a blog sticking the boot into one of my least favourite places, but I won’t do that. Let’s focus on the beer instead.  A pre planned stop on the way home from Lincoln, Peterborough has some decent places. The first of which is The Blind Tiger. The Blind Tiger is a proper craft place, it’s great! I had Sports Mode from Silent Brew Co and it was lovely! I also really love the seating at The Blind Tiger. Suspended seats! From here we made the short walk to The Stoneworks Bar for a first visit! Small but mighty! We opted to go straight for Impys from Scandinavian Brewers Amundsen and Dugges. Two favourites of mine!  You can’t just have one impy right? Cheers to impys! Working slowly towards the station we headed into The Brewery Tap.  I’ve visiting this place before and always thought tha...

Moose On The Loose - Lincoln: Imping Over The Line

I was excited to visit Lincoln properly for the first time. Last year I visited just to watch the football and only managed to get to one pub. Therefore a proper visit was long overdue. I was joined by a full squad of friends and here’s what we got up to. An early start at Cambridge station saw us arrive before eleven in Lincoln. Every train we rode arrived on time, what a miracle! After checking into the hotel we made our way to The Golden Eagle, probably the best football away pub I’ve ever visited!  Pints of Castle Rock beers, including Harvest Pale and How High Is The Moon, were consumed as excitement for the game started to build. Last season Cambridge were hammered 6-0 by Lincoln, as we walked to the ground I hopped history was not going to repeat itself. Untied in Endeavour  A collector’s item James Gibbons goal gave bottom of the league Cambridge a solid away point from a game that in truth they should have taken more from. Though it was nice not to be having co...
