Away Days 24/25: East Meets West - Brentford

It’s not very often that I watch games as a neutral, but it’s nice to watch a match without any emotional involvement! I have a rule which states, I will not attend another game involving a football league team when Cambridge are playing, except if it’s in the EFL Trophy.  DJ pointed me in the direction of this game, Brentford vs Leyton Orient, as the tickets were only £10 and it was a ground tick for both of us! It’s amazing how far out of London Brentford is. It took the same time to get from King’s Cross to Brentford as it did to get from Cambridge to London! Of course, upon arrival in Brentford we went straight to the pub.  If you need pub recommendations always ask Retired Martin The Express Tavern was excellent! Just look at the fish and chips: Great Harvey’s, Hophead and Fish and Chips what more could you want?  We then made the short walk to The Griffin (not Retired Martin recommended) one of the four pubs by Griffin Park. I was hoping for an ESB, but had to settle for an ave

Italia 24: Is Katun Still The King? Mirabilandia and Culture

I first visited Mirabilandia back in 2015. Katun quickly became my favourite coaster! Nine years later I return to see if Katun is as good as I remember it and also ride the new attractions at the park. Before we went to the park we stopped in Ravenna to see the sights. Ravenna was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire during the 5th century and it was stunning.  Right, thats enough culture. Main event time! It’s always nice being at a park where you don’t have to rush around getting all of the creds!  Divertical (733). This was closed on my previous visit. I finally got the cred, but also a very wet shoe!  Next was Ispeed, I had the cred and remembered it being quite rough.  It was a lot better and smoother than I remembered it! Phew! Desmo Race (734&736) then opened, I have always thought that these spike coasters are a bit naff.  Yeah, they’re naff.  I then grabbed the disco coaster (735). Finally it was time for Katun. I managed two rides on this visit. The first ride was midd

Away Days 24/25: Same Old Situation - Mansfield

With just one point so far in the league, Cambridge really needed to get a win on the board, or at least something from the trip to Mansfield.  I decided to drive to this one. It took less than two hours to get to Mansfield and that was almost two hours of me torturing DJ and John with my eclectic music taste. Upon arrival we headed to the centre to see the town.  We were greeting by a man burping loudly. Mansfield is full of mobility scooters, there was at least one outside of every cafe and pub. There was even a market stall selling them.  We needed coffee so headed to spoons. £1.56 refillable coffee and breakfast with sides for £7! I was buttering my toast when disaster struck… Maybe there is a god after all? I fancied a pint and I was glad to see this. My favourite alcohol free beer!  We then made our way to the ground. I’ll follow Cambridge wherever they go!  We also had a pint at the ground. They actually had Guinness AF at the ground! I haven’t seen any AF beers at a football

Italia 24: Let’s Get Some Plus 1s

There’s always plus 1s to be found, you just have to research where they are. A plus 1 is a rollercoaster that doesn’t warrant a description. Mostly because they’re usually not very good, repetitive and you’ll have forgotten all about them in an instant. Fairs are a great way to gain plus 1s to boost your coaster count! Italian fairs open late, which is a bonus!  We rocked up to the first place and found three plus 1s!  Only cool people allowed Mullet in progress After adding a plus three to my coaster count I had some questions. Like what is this frog doing?  Would anyone think this is actually from Universal Studios? Why is this so creepy? But most importantly, why aren’t we riding this? Who doesn’t love a Polyp? These are just great rides!  We moved on to Parco Juniour, a small selection of rides inside a park. What a beast The next fair had more of the same. Oh look, another one of these! Closed. These things are actually half decent, Blackpool used to have one!  Copyright doesn’
