Italia 24: Is Katun Still The King? Mirabilandia and Culture

I first visited Mirabilandia back in 2015. Katun quickly became my favourite coaster! Nine years later I return to see if Katun is as good as I remember it and also ride the new attractions at the park.

Before we went to the park we stopped in Ravenna to see the sights. Ravenna was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire during the 5th century and it was stunning.

Right, thats enough culture. Main event time!

It’s always nice being at a park where you don’t have to rush around getting all of the creds!

Divertical (733). This was closed on my previous visit.

I finally got the cred, but also a very wet shoe!

Next was Ispeed, I had the cred and remembered it being quite rough.

It was a lot better and smoother than I remembered it! Phew!

Desmo Race (734&736) then opened, I have always thought that these spike coasters are a bit naff.

Yeah, they’re naff.

I then grabbed the disco coaster (735).

Finally it was time for Katun. I managed two rides on this visit. The first ride was middle row, Mirabilandia doesn’t let you choose. Middle row was underwhelming, could it lose its top spot? I knew I had to do back row. I sprinted past some locals heading for back row and claimed it for myself. Back row was everything I wanted and more. Fast and forceful! That helix is still an absolute colossus. Nine years later, it’s still number 1!

Some things don’t change.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...

Moose On The Loose - Lincoln: Imping Over The Line

I was excited to visit Lincoln properly for the first time. Last year I visited just to watch the football and only managed to get to one pub. Therefore a proper visit was long overdue. I was joined by a full squad of friends and here’s what we got up to. An early start at Cambridge station saw us arrive before eleven in Lincoln. Every train we rode arrived on time, what a miracle! After checking into the hotel we made our way to The Golden Eagle, probably the best football away pub I’ve ever visited!  Pints of Castle Rock beers, including Harvest Pale and How High Is The Moon, were consumed as excitement for the game started to build. Last season Cambridge were hammered 6-0 by Lincoln, as we walked to the ground I hopped history was not going to repeat itself. Untied in Endeavour  A collector’s item James Gibbons goal gave bottom of the league Cambridge a solid away point from a game that in truth they should have taken more from. Though it was nice not to be having co...
