Italia 24: Let’s Get Some Plus 1s

There’s always plus 1s to be found, you just have to research where they are. A plus 1 is a rollercoaster that doesn’t warrant a description. Mostly because they’re usually not very good, repetitive and you’ll have forgotten all about them in an instant. Fairs are a great way to gain plus 1s to boost your coaster count! Italian fairs open late, which is a bonus!

We rocked up to the first place and found three plus 1s!

Only cool people allowed

Mullet in progress

After adding a plus three to my coaster count I had some questions. Like what is this frog doing?

Would anyone think this is actually from Universal Studios?

Why is this so creepy?

But most importantly, why aren’t we riding this?
Who doesn’t love a Polyp? These are just great rides!

We moved on to Parco Juniour, a small selection of rides inside a park.

What a beast
The next fair had more of the same.

Oh look, another one of these!

Closed.

These things are actually half decent, Blackpool used to have one!

Copyright doesn’t seem to be a thing in Italy, or at most fairs. This was called Avengers and featured plenty of Avengers artwork.

Long time readers will know how much I love a Break Dance (ride). I saw this and had to give it go.

I guess this is a Fake Dance, it’s certainly nothing in comparison to a proper one. Not fast or particularly spiny!

We then headed to New Jesolandia, which is a sort of fair/ actual amusement park hybrid.

Magic Mountain was pretty nippy!

This thing was rubbish, basically a Christmas decoration experience.

A very fierce dragon was slayed for the plus 1!

I have never seen a Big Apple with a railway crossing gate or a bench!

Perhaps now, if you didn’t already, you understand the importance of plus 1s. They’re rarely good but they get your coaster count up quickly, I went from 720 to 732 just from the fairs. Increasing your coaster count is all that matters right?

Thanks for reading!

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Moose On The Loose - Lincoln: Imping Over The Line

I was excited to visit Lincoln properly for the first time. Last year I visited just to watch the football and only managed to get to one pub. Therefore a proper visit was long overdue. I was joined by a full squad of friends and here’s what we got up to. An early start at Cambridge station saw us arrive before eleven in Lincoln. Every train we rode arrived on time, what a miracle! After checking into the hotel we made our way to The Golden Eagle, probably the best football away pub I’ve ever visited!  Pints of Castle Rock beers, including Harvest Pale and How High Is The Moon, were consumed as excitement for the game started to build. Last season Cambridge were hammered 6-0 by Lincoln, as we walked to the ground I hopped history was not going to repeat itself. Untied in Endeavour  A collector’s item James Gibbons goal gave bottom of the league Cambridge a solid away point from a game that in truth they should have taken more from. Though it was nice not to be having co...
