You Won’t Believe How I Spent St Patrick’s Day!

Who doesn’t love a Sunday London beer? Heading back from Reading, we paused in London for some beers. We realised that we were proximal to Richmond, the home of Ted Laso. If you’ve not seen the show, watch it! The Prince’s Head is featured throughout Ted Laso. It’s the place where Ted and Coach catch up over an ESB.

The Prince’s Head is a truly stunning pub and the ESB was perfect. Ted Laso references are everywhere here:

As it was St Patrick’s Day we had to have a Guinness, so we headed across London.

This pub is special, despite being Greene King. Famous for pirates and pirate activities, The Prospect Of Whitby holds a little secret. Just look at this view:

The above is me attempting to be artsy. The Guinness was pretty good!

The Grapes is a short walk away and is owned by a celebrity actor. I’ve never seen and don’t plan to watch Lord of The Rings, so am only interested in the beer.

The Guinness wasn’t great. The view from the tiny outside bit was good though.

We needed to get our trains home from London Bridge. Going to London Bridge means going to Bermondsey Beer Mile, sorry I don’t make the rules. There were some new bar ticks to get!

We started at Mash Paddle Brewery.

To be honest, I wasn’t a fan. Most of the beers they had on were generic. As much as I love Budvar Dark, and I really do, it’s not what I want from Bermondsey. I wouldn’t return here.

Next door is Enid Street Tavern

This place is owned by Bianca Road Brew Co, and had a decent range of beers on. I wouldn’t say it was one of the top tier stops on the beer mile, but it was worth a look. We then headed to Cloudwater.

Where I was disappointed by this:

We also shared some impy, which allowed friend of the blog, Dan, to show off:

Next up, mead. Yes really. Dan and Jonny wished to try mead. The mead place was actually end great! The barman was uber friendly, and was certain he could find me a mead that I’d like. Spoiler alert, he couldn’t, mead is far too sweet for me. I stuck to London Black.

We then headed to Moor, one of my faves:

I really, really like Moor beers. Their stout is one of my all time faves!

We had time for one more taproom. It Ain’t Much If It Ain’t Dutch was new to all of us. As you’ve probably guessed, all Dutch beers!

I think this place is a really good addition to the mile. The range of beers is interesting, and there’s loads of beer creds to get!

That concluded St Patrick’s Day! I’m now caught up with the blog! Phew!
Thanks for reading!

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Moose On The Loose - Lincoln: Imping Over The Line

I was excited to visit Lincoln properly for the first time. Last year I visited just to watch the football and only managed to get to one pub. Therefore a proper visit was long overdue. I was joined by a full squad of friends and here’s what we got up to. An early start at Cambridge station saw us arrive before eleven in Lincoln. Every train we rode arrived on time, what a miracle! After checking into the hotel we made our way to The Golden Eagle, probably the best football away pub I’ve ever visited!  Pints of Castle Rock beers, including Harvest Pale and How High Is The Moon, were consumed as excitement for the game started to build. Last season Cambridge were hammered 6-0 by Lincoln, as we walked to the ground I hopped history was not going to repeat itself. Untied in Endeavour  A collector’s item James Gibbons goal gave bottom of the league Cambridge a solid away point from a game that in truth they should have taken more from. Though it was nice not to be having co...
