Beer Moose

  At the time of writing Cambridge United have the best home form in the league! However their away form doesn’t match up with just one away win all season. So making the longest trip of the season up to Barrow in Furness would of course bring great success right? It’s only 260 miles from St Ives (Cambridgeshire). Such a journey required an early start, at 06:50 I parked up at Brampton Hut services and waited for the away bus to arrive to take me the rest of the way to Barrow. We made two stops en route before arriving at around 13:40. We decided to check out the fan zone, which is just to the right of this building:  The stadium has a weird name Beer choices inside were Carling or Madri. I opted for Carling but that died so I had a Madri. The club operated a cup deposit scheme where you pay a two pound deposit for the cup but weirdly then return the cup to the bar to receive a token to then finally get your two pound back at the club shop.   I mean seriously, why is there an alien on the roof? Anyway, welcome to another edition of Moose On The Loose! A feature where I travel somewhere to watch Cambridge United lose (spoiler alert) and then drown my sorrows. A visit to Notts County opened up a return to Nottingham for the first time in quite a while. We kick things off with some Castle Rock, who are one of my fave breweries. Proper pub The Vat and Fiddle is a brilliant pub. Pint of Black Gold mild and Mars Bar inspired stout Space Junk went down a treat as excitement built for the game.  Decent range  Tasty! We then made the short trip to the ground. It’s a nice ground for sure but the stewards here were difficult, power hungry perhaps. I was hungry for three points but after a game of mostly nothingness which you defo don’t want to lose, Cambridge found a way to lose 2-0.
