Best Beer Destinations: Põhjala Brewery & Tap Room - Tallinn, Estonia.

A 

30 minute(ish) walk from the cobbles of Tallinn’s glorious Old Town to a more residential suburb, took me towards a major tick off of my beer bucket list. Even the rain couldn’t dampen my excitement to visit Põhjala! 

Famed for their Imperial Stouts and Baltic Porters, I simply couldn’t visit Tallinn without visiting here. I also hoped it would live up to my high expectations, to justify making my friends walk out here when Põhala have a tap room in the city centre. We only had time for one. 



What an entrance! The taproom is situated up a couple of flights of stairs and is one of the best looking tap rooms I’ve visited! Of course I neglected to take a photo… I am hoping that writing this blog will make me take more photos…

Onto the beers! Põhjala offer thirds (great success!) meaning in total I tried 14 beers of the 24 available on tap. Some were tasters of my friend’s beers. The taproom is Untappd verified and has screens to display the beer lists. To order thirds you’re provided with a paper slip and a pen, using Untappd as my guide I started off with a lager to cleanse my pallet before I got to the impys!


In total I tried; a Lager, a West Coast IPA, a Dark Lager, a Barleywine, a Sour, a Session IPA, a New England IPA, a Gruit, a Porter, two Imperial Stouts and three Baltic Porters. I’m not going to go through them all but I’ll give my pick of the bunch, which made me very happy: 



Enn Barrel, from Põhjala’s Cellar Series, is a 12.5% Irish coffee inspired and whiskey barrel aged Imperial Stout. Put simply, it’s dark, roasty, smooth and coffee in taste. It’s also one of the best beer I’ve ever had! I even gave it a rare 5/5 rating on Untappd! In fact it was so good, I had a second third. 

Põhala Brewery & Taproom is simply a must visit when in Tallinn. The range of styles on offer during my visit was incredible. The mac & cheese wasn’t too shabby either. I will return one day. 

As for my friends, who I dragged across Tallinn to visit, I’m going to leave you with one of their quotes. “I can see why you insisted on coming here”

    Good choice !

    Did you see the little robot delivery dogs (just in your first photo).

    We were there in summer and loved the walk out to that place along the seafront as much as the beer. Classy place.

    We have those in Cambridge now, they’re funny little things. I pushed the crossing button for one once and it didn’t cross the road. I’ve taken that personally.

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Away Days 25/26: Promotion Party? - Crewe

 How time flies. It only feels like yesterday I was writing the blog for the first away day of the season at Swindon and now I’m writing about the last away day! Going into the final weekend of the season Cambridge were in third place, the last automatic promotion spot. There were 27 possible scenarios that could have occurred and in those Cambridge would be promoted in 19 of them.
