In Search of The Best Guinness in Cambridge Part 2: Caught Somewhere In Time, Which Holiday Is It Again?

 Time’s arrow stops for no Guinness drinking man, the quest must go on! 



The Empress: 


I hadn’t visited The Empress since February, when during the visit two people had a bit of a punch up whilst another destroyed a toilet mirror. Safe to say, this pub isn’t one of my favourites. My friend and I braved it. The Christmas decorations were already on display both inside and outside the pub, tedious I muttered. Christmas wasn’t the only holiday being celebrating, the Halloween deco was also out in force! 


Guinness obtained we sat in the garden, beside what appeared to be chairs from a school. A few dogs roamed around the garden, which caused people into that sort of thing great excitement. The Guinness was poor to average. The first half was average at best, once I got the the second half it tasted sharp and metallic. Two bugs of some kind also decided to land in my pint at different points. Guinness rating 1.75 out of 5.

The Brook: 


A pub that I don’t think I’d been back to since my 18th Birthday challenge of visiting every pub in Cambridge, not all on the same day before you ask. I walk past this pub all the time but never feel the need to go in. We walked in and found you typical Greene King Pub, with the usual line up of beers. I have to say, I found atmosphere uncomfortable, we collected our Guinness’ and headed for the garden. The atmosphere in the garden wasn’t much better. The Guinness was very poor. It was acidic and incredible metallic. Finishing the pint was a challenge, not a challenge I was willing to complete. At 3/4 down the pints we left. 1 out of 5.

Is it a pub or is it a bar? Couldn’t care less. 1.5 out of 5 Guinness and it was served in a plastic glass. Shocking.

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Away Days 25/26: Promotion Party? - Crewe

 How time flies. It only feels like yesterday I was writing the blog for the first away day of the season at Swindon and now I’m writing about the last away day! Going into the final weekend of the season Cambridge were in third place, the last automatic promotion spot. There were 27 possible scenarios that could have occurred and in those Cambridge would be promoted in 19 of them. This is my take on Cambridge United’s winner takes all last game of the season, I hope you enjoy it.  The day before. I made my way up to Stockport where I met Rach, Liz and John. We tried a few beers to settle the nerves. I was already nervous and was changing my mind about whether we were going to win promotion or not.
