Oktoberfest is much more than just a big beer festival. Oktoberfest is a mixture of two of my favourite things, beer and rides. I’ll get to the beer in the next blog for this trip. This was my second visit to Oktoberfest and on my last visit I chose to sit a few rides out. This time, I wanted to ride pretty much everything! Let’s get to the rides, in no particular order! But stay tuned for some Break Dance action at the end!
Höllenblitz

The largest indoor travelling coaster, currently on its third incarnation (More info) provides a decent experience. Without providing spoilers, the effects inside are decent enough. The coaster itself isn’t world class but is certainly worth a ride. The sheer scale of the thing is impressive.
Olympia Looping

Looking the part |
You’ve probably heard about, seen or even ridden this one. It’s the largest travelling coaster around, famous for its multiple brightly coloured loops and is in my opinion best ridden at its home, Oktoberfest. A great coaster, that looks spectacular at night, is a must ride at the festival. Although you may wish to ride before having too many steins. Oh and watch out for the over the shoulder restraints, they have a bit of bite to them.
Alpina-Bahn
Probably my favourite coaster at Oktoberfest is Alpina-Bahn. It’s not the biggest, fastest or most intense coaster at the festival but it’s fun and comfortable! The lack of over the shoulder restraints allows me to enjoy this coaster more than looping. It’s just a shame that there’s a lack of airtime, when it feels like there should be some.
Circus Circus
A new flat ride for me and one that I really enjoyed. Circus Circus had enough about it to make me want to ride it again the next day, but was tame enough to ride after eating and drinking. It sort of rides like a bigger polyp and I’m all for it!
Ferris Wheel
Ferris wheels aren’t normally something I bother riding, but riding this 1979 classic to get a view of the festival seemed worth it and it was. Riding just as it started to get dark gave a beautiful view. You think that you’re high up, until you look up and see the booster towering above…
Skyfall
I believe Skyfall is a copy and paste of the tower ridden in Stuttgart. It certainly rode the same. Great views but a fairly forceless drop.
Krinoline
Built in 1924 Krinoline remains an Oktoberfest stable. I really enjoy this ride it’s got a sense of thrill to it, despite its calm nature. A live band put out some proper bangers whilst you ride!
Rudd um de Tegernsee
A classic ride from the swinging 1960s, that’s good fun and surprisingly wet. On this visit, I got spat on by a statue many times on the way past it….
Mondlift

Pre flight selfie |
Easily the best Enterprise ride I’ve done. Mondlift felt like it went on forever! It goes to fully upright, partially back down and then back to fully upright again. Brilliant cycle! I hadn’t done one of these for years, but will defo do one again.
Calypso
Found in the Oide Wiesn area, this 1960s packs a real punch. A predecessor to the Break Dance, it’s a must do. I remember that when I rode it last year, I actually felt quite dizzy. My tolerance must have improved!
Hexis Wippn
Does Hexis remind you of Hex at Alton Towers? Well you’d be right if it does, this is a classic version of the concept. Spooky artwork awaits, as you try and work out which way us up.
Break Dance
Saving the best until last, I cannot believe my new found love for these rides. The perfect mix of spinning, music and intensity create a simply excellent experience! I cannot wait to ride my next one. Thanks for reading this, I’m going to leave you with some photos of me ‘break dancing’.
Special thank you to David Morton for the on ride photos!
