Top Cambridge Pubs: Earl Of Beaconsfield

It’s time for another of my favourite Cambridge pubs and this one may surprise a few people!

 In my opinion the Earl Of Beaconsfield is a greatly underrated pub. Affectionally known as ‘The Beaky’, it’s a place I love to visit. Situated on the Romsey side of Mill Road bridge, I highly recommend a visit.


The Beaky is one of the few Cambridge pubs which remain open after midnight, thus I usually end my nights here. It’s a great pub to end the night in, but it’s much more than just a late night venue. I like the busy, yet friendly atmosphere here. 

The Beaky serves a good range of ales, honestly I cannot recall ever having a bad pint here. Sometimes one of my all times favourites, Titanic Brewery’s Plum Porter is available: 


The Beaky is a pub which prides itself on an array of entertainment including, regular live music, jam sessions, live sports and something that’s an increasingly rare sight in Cambridge:

Situated at the back of The Beaky’s courtyard beer garden is another room, with a pool table! I can easily count off one hand how many pool tables are currently in Cambridge pubs! 



If you’re a Guinness fan, the Beaky serves one of the best pints of it in Cambridge. This reminds me that I have a quest to continue…. 


In summary The Beaky is a great pub. I think it unfairly gets overlooked as there’s so many great pubs on Mill Road.  However, I’d go as far as to say, I’ve had beer here that’s certainly at least on par with some of the Mill Road big hitters. It’s also a great pub to celebrate a Cambridge United victory in…..


Except, that’s not what Rach and I are doing here, we lost 3-0 to Luton in the fourth round of The FA Cup. Still, The Beaky put a smile back on our faces.

Smile Like You Mean It: The Story of My Friendship With Rach, Mental Health and Our Latest Adventure.

 I’m very fortunate to have great friends in my life, I don’t think you can put a value on good people. People who have your back, make you laugh, pick you up if you need it, advise you, complement you and at times challenge you. Away Days 24/25: Is It Over? Wigan

  Welcome to the first instalment of a three blog series from the Northwest! I had a great weekend, football aside, visiting Manchester, Wigan and Stockport. This should really be the second part of this series, where’s the fun in doing things in the correct order?  We made the short train journey from Manchester to Wigan. Rach had found us a bakery to grab a pie or Wigan Kebab but I was distracted by a sign saying taproom. We had time so called in for a beer! Except  what we actually did was walk into a pub, rather than the planned taproom!  Wigan Central was great! A pint and lime soda cost £4!  The US Session was crisp, fresh and super tasty! A 10/10 pint. As we enjoyed our drinks I had a renewed sense of optimism that Cambridge were going to win today. We started making our to the ground and stopped at the bakery Rach found for lunch.
