Caribbean Chocolate Cake 2023. More Seriously Great Stouts From Siren Craft!

I was honoured when I was chosen by Siren Craft to review their Caribbean Chocolate Cake beers this year.

I make no secret of my love for Siren Craft, ever since I first tasted Broken Dream. At time of writing, I’ve tried 6,263 beers and Broken Dream remains my favourite. Perhaps one of the Caribbean Chocolate Cake beers will become my new favourite, let’s get to it.

Caribbean Chocolate Cupcake

I’ve decided to start with the lowest abv beer of the set. Caribbean Chocolate Cupcake weighs in at 5.4% ABV, the lowest ever ABV beer in the Caribbean Chocolate Cake series. The aroma is sweet with hints of milk chocolate. The taste continues the milk chocolate theme, with hints of cedar wood and sweet vanilla. The taste is also exceptionally balanced, which pleased me, as I’m not much of a sweet tooth. A dry, milk chocolate aftertaste ends a very pleasant and enjoyable beer.

Caribbean Salted Cherry Chocolate Cake:

If I’m honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from a beer that suggests a salted cherry taste. The aroma is deep cherry smell, with hints of dark chocolate and slight acidity. The first taste I get is of smooth, dark chocolate. This is quickly overcome with a dry cherry taste, which happily lingers and morphs into a sweet cherry taste. I really enjoyed this beer, it’s certainly different to what I would normally go for and seek in a stout.

Nitro Caribbean Chocolate Cake:

I love pouring nitro stouts because I love watching the cascade as the beer settles, perhaps I am easily amused. When first brewed, this beer was done as a collaboration with another of my favourite breweries, Cigar City, from Florida. As the sweet chocolate aroma is swept into my nose, I can’t wait any longer and take a sip. My mouth is full of delicious, sweet and chocolate goodness. I love the thick, velvety body of this beer. The aftertaste is also chocolaty, combined with a dry cypress wood finish.

Death By C.C.C

The strongest of this year’s collection. Tonka bean dominates the aroma and initial taste. Tonka is a taste that gives different people a different experience from the same beer. Tonka gives me a sweet and tropical taste, other people get a sweet spicy taste. Let me know what taste you get! The aftertaste is dry with a  amburana wood finish. I’m glad that I saved this big hitter until last! At 10% ABV it was the perfect nightcap!

Final thoughts:

I throughly enjoyed tasting these beers. It’s a real testament to the quality of Siren Craft, to have four beers in the same series, that have such unique and different flavours. I truly enjoyed each beer and would love to have them again. If you’re a fan of stouts or just fancy trying some great beers, I recommend getting your order in quickly from Siren. Link: Order here! They’re on sale from Friday November 10th, to people on the mailing list.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to Siren Craft, for both brewing these awesome beers and choosing to send them to me to review. This free gift was appreciated, I’d better order some to share with friends!

Thanks for reading.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...

Moose On The Loose: Have I Found The Best Ever Crisp Flavour? Manchester.

Join me for another pub trip around Manchester! We will swing by some old favourites and potentially make some new ones! Really this is part one of the three part series, but part two is already released so let’s get to it! I headed straight for Track as soon as I made it off of the train at Manchester Piccadilly. Track is one of my all time favourite taprooms! I opted for the Aspern and Navigator. Aspern is a Vienna style lager and was really nice. Navigator is an Irish Dry style stout and whilst it was ok, I found it a bit sweet for my taste. Beers dispatched it was time for a trip round the corner to another old favourite!  Sureshot is another brilliant taproom! What Did I Say Roy? A west coast pale that really hit the dream spot of lingering bitterness and refreshment. We didn’t have far to go for the next pint!  Balance Taproom is almost next door to Sureshot! Balance specialise in fruited beers which aren’t really my thing, so I had a lager from Utopian Brewing. Ra...
