Mad In Madrid: Parque de Atracciones: Mostly Plane Sailing!

Day two of the Mad in Madrid trip! The day started by filing some coffee and a large waffle, covered in white chocolate, into my face. It was an easy metro ride over to Parque de Atracciones (PDA). The plan for the day was simple: get in, get the creds, get to the airport, fly home, pick the i30 up and boot it back to Cambridge!

The operations at this park were an improvement from Parque Warner, thankfully! Seven creds to get, let’s go!

Paw Patrol 538:

A plus one. It’s best to get these ticked off early, before they have a disgustingly huge queue! This was actually pretty rough, for some reason. Meh, plus one and done!

Vertigo 539:

As Wild Mouses go, Mack probably make the best ones. Mack’s mouses are enjoyable for being decent creds, rather than funny chaos like most UK seaside mouses. However, they do become less enjoyable when you get hit in the face by a wasp, thank flip for glasses! Sometimes the brakes can be a bit sharp,.

Padrinos Voladores 540:

The most tedious queue of the day. A plus one for me, but a milestone 400th cred for two mates on this trip. Congrats guys!

TNT Tren de la Mina 541:

Hiding behind this castle like building, is PDA’s mine train. It’s not your train, it’s mine train. That joke was probably more interesting than the ride.

Abismo 542:

I’m really not a fan of these. The hang time is just unpleasant. Having said that, the second half of these can be ok. On Abismo the second half was very rough. Abismo was abysmal.

Tarantula 543:

A tricky one to photograph! Tarantula was a decent coaster. However, despite our best efforts to off balance the train to get the ultimate spin, there wasn’t much spinning action.

Tornado 544:

I’ve now completed the set of Intamin inverts! Womp womp! I actually really like these. They’re forceful and fun! Not as good as their rivals B&M (no, not the shop), but still a good coaster!

With the creds done, it was time to eat!

This was my first time eating bioconcave chips, that was a nice surprise! The ribs were nice too! I washed both down with a radler, it was hot and I had to drive later on.

With creds done and food consumed, we even had time to ride other things in the park!

La Lanzadera:

Intamin drop towers are great! This was a 63 meter, second generation tower and was really fun!

Star Flyer:

I have ridden of these since my last visit to Grona Lund, it had therefore been a while! This was one of the smaller Star Flyer models, standing at just 80 metres. Because I’m super nice, I volunteered to look after a slightly nervous first time Star Flyer.

La Maquina:

Inward facing spinning things aren’t nearly as good as outward facing spinning things. This one faffed around for a bit and then got intense for less than 30 seconds, before ending.

Day two of Mad In Madrid was certainly an improvement! All of the creds were obtained with relative ease, the food was better than Parque Warner and the weather was better too. PDA has a reasonable collection of rides, though nothing really stands out. I do like an Intamin invert though.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...
