Mad In Madrid Part 3: The Bars - My Excellent Shirt Choice Makes Me Look Like A Tiki Bar Waiter

Madrid turned out to an excellent city to drink in! I was tasked with finding good beer places for post theme park drinks! I feel like I did a great job, if I do say so myself. As well as beer places, we discovered some incredible cocktail bars. Let’s get to it!

CLBM Bar:

The beer was an impressive mix of local Spanish and international craft beers. I never expected to find a Spanish made keg mild, but Cierzo Brewing Co has brewed a great modern take of a traditional style. Brews from craft big boys, Lervig, went down a treat! It was a good place to introduce the non beer drinkers of the group to a range of different beer styles.

Hawaiano Mauna Los:

I think this was my first Tiki bar! I did go for a beer first, but later realised I needed to have a cocktail!

First tiki bar and my first mojito too! I really enjoyed trying something different. Went I went to find the facilities, someone tried to give me their drinks order. Here’s the shirt I was wearing, would you assume I work in a tiki bar?

La Maripepa Cerveceria:

Strike the pose

This was my favourite bar in Madrid. Exceptional service and the best selection of beers I saw, in the Spanish capital. With so many beers to sample, I was happy to see these available!

I love a tasting flight! Pick of the beers was KUSS, an 8% NEIPA, from a Spanish micro brewery called KOM. Piney and juicy, perfect for the Spanish climate.

Once my flight had disappeared, I headed back to the bar in search of an impy. Sadly, the impy on tap had run out. I went to the fridge and hit the holy grail!

It was everything I wanted and more. A deep and dark caramel taste, with an oaky aftertaste. Pohjala, in my opinion, are the best impy brewers. I rated this beer a rare 5/5!

Mr Hyde:

A horror movie themed cocktail bar? Yes please! Somewhere that was certainly off piste for someone who doesn’t watch films or drink cocktails often! None the less, this place was epic! Top level theming, music and drinks were on offer!

Coffee, tequila and nutmeg

A handy drink

It was really nice! The nutmeg produced a spicy finish! Maybe I’m becoming a cocktail moose?

Caught in the camera eye

Thanks for reading this short tour of bars in Madrid. I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface of great bars in this city. Considering Madrid is a capital city, the drinks were all reasonably priced. Stay tuned to hear about my next adventure, oh one last thing:

  1. I wasn't ready for the ending !

Decent pricing, as long as you stick to pints !

    1. Haha I think the ending is really funny. The sign is at the exit of Mr Hyde!
To be honest, the cocktails weren’t bad either. I’ve seen a lot worse.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...

Moose On The Loose: Have I Found The Best Ever Crisp Flavour? Manchester.

Join me for another pub trip around Manchester! We will swing by some old favourites and potentially make some new ones! Really this is part one of the three part series, but part two is already released so let’s get to it! I headed straight for Track as soon as I made it off of the train at Manchester Piccadilly. Track is one of my all time favourite taprooms! I opted for the Aspern and Navigator. Aspern is a Vienna style lager and was really nice. Navigator is an Irish Dry style stout and whilst it was ok, I found it a bit sweet for my taste. Beers dispatched it was time for a trip round the corner to another old favourite!  Sureshot is another brilliant taproom! What Did I Say Roy? A west coast pale that really hit the dream spot of lingering bitterness and refreshment. We didn’t have far to go for the next pint!  Balance Taproom is almost next door to Sureshot! Balance specialise in fruited beers which aren’t really my thing, so I had a lager from Utopian Brewing. Ra...
