Werewolves Of London: Coaster Friends Xmas Party: International Horse Show With +2

The Christmas time coaster enthusiast meet up is one of highlights of the calendar year. Obviously, I can’t disclose everything that goes on during this sacred festival. What I can say, is that there’s usually a lot of drinks, antics, presents and hopefully some creds.

The Cambridge crew arrived at Hyde Park at around 10am, where we met a delegate from Hertford. Hyde Park hosts the annual Winter Wonderbland… sorry Wonderland. If you like spending nearly £10 on an undercooked ‘German’ sausage, this is the place for you. Sadly, there was only one new coaster this year and I’d already ridden it! Though it’s a good one and I gave it another ride:

Here it is in Stuttgart

Cred obtained, we fled to the nearest coffee shop and headed east. There were two creds waiting for us at Excel London. It turns out, The Excel was also hosting London International Horse Show. This meant that we had a wade through a sea of horsey weirdos to get to the creds. Horse people are weird, they’re obsessed with things that eat hay and fart and I only do one of those things. The aroma of the place wasn’t great either. Further proof that horses just fart all of the time. Anyway enough farting around, there’s creds to get.

Creds this way

Sleigh those creds

I have no shame

Creds obtained, we checked our watches and realised that it was pub o’clock. The organiser of this meet up had booked us The King’s Arms in Mayfair.

A decent enough boozer, for a Greedy King place, we sat upstairs and admired the appropriate amusement park photos on the walls. The Guinness was average. Once the rest of the crew arrived, the drinks and presents flowed. After inhaling some fish and chips, we headed to Camden. Some needed and cred and others, including me, needed more beer. We ventured to the nearby Werewolf Beer LTD.

This brewery is themed to ghost trains!

Theming like this makes theme park enthusiasts really excited.

I opted for the brown ale, which was pretty decent. I had a taste of one of the pales, which was meh. The cider drinkers were impressed with the canned cider. Overall a decent little place. We didn’t have long here, as we needed to head to our evening booking.

I neglected to take a photo of The Prince Albert, Camden. It’s a nice pub, with beers mostly coming from Laine Brewery. Most of them available weren’t my sort of thing, but I did enjoy the lager.

The Guinness was good too! I’ve found it hard to find good Guinness in London, on previous visits to the capital.

We ended our night at Zodiac, an LGBT pub/ club. I don’t really know what to class it as, it looks like a pub but has a club atmosphere.

The Rainbow Pilsner from Portobello was average, but beer options on were thin on the ground. Not that it’s a place you go for beer. The music was fun. After we had danced the night away, the Cambridge crew headed home.

I’ll leave you with this:

Sometimes it’s best not to ask.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...

Moose On The Loose: Have I Found The Best Ever Crisp Flavour? Manchester.

Join me for another pub trip around Manchester! We will swing by some old favourites and potentially make some new ones! Really this is part one of the three part series, but part two is already released so let’s get to it! I headed straight for Track as soon as I made it off of the train at Manchester Piccadilly. Track is one of my all time favourite taprooms! I opted for the Aspern and Navigator. Aspern is a Vienna style lager and was really nice. Navigator is an Irish Dry style stout and whilst it was ok, I found it a bit sweet for my taste. Beers dispatched it was time for a trip round the corner to another old favourite!  Sureshot is another brilliant taproom! What Did I Say Roy? A west coast pale that really hit the dream spot of lingering bitterness and refreshment. We didn’t have far to go for the next pint!  Balance Taproom is almost next door to Sureshot! Balance specialise in fruited beers which aren’t really my thing, so I had a lager from Utopian Brewing. Ra...
