It’s been a while, but for good reason! At time of writing, I’ve literally just arrived home after spending just over two weeks in The USA. I’ve ridden coasters from New York to Georgia, and had a few beers along the way. Here’s the route map:
I’m going to kick things off with the non coaster stuff we did in New York.
Let’s start with the flight. I flew Virgin Atlantic, Economy Delight. The plane had a camera on the front!
How cool is that?! I spent most of the flight watching it, wow don’t I sound fun! The flight was uneventful and we arrived into JFK early evening. JFK airport, like most USA airports, is notorious for how long it takes to get through the department of homeland security, the queue was advertised at over an hour! Therefore I highly recommend using the MPC app. If you’re traveling with the same passport as your last trip and have had an ESTA before, you can use it. It took us 15 minutes to get through, instead of over an hour.
Then it was time to collect the car!
We covered over 3000 miles in this car! It looked very presidential!
Since we arrived in the evening we headed straight for dinner, at an old favourite.
The orange chicken was divine and there was plenty of it! The Goose Island IPA, was ok.
The next morning we headed to nab the creds at Coney Island, I will write a separate blog for that! After Coney Island we took the Staten Island Ferry over to central New York City. The ferry, which is free, gave amazing views of the city.
It’s always a strange feeling seeing buildings and monuments in the flesh, that you’ve seen photos of for virtually your whole life!
As we walked towards Brooklyn, we got a bit distracted by a fish carousel. Yes, you read that right!
It is a rideable art exhibition made up of lights, colours, sounds and movements.
We then walked through the city.
I wasn’t going to queue for a photo.
Liked the look of this church. It really stands out amongst the tall, glass buildings.
We then arrived at somewhere I’d wished to visit for a while, only to find that it had just closed. Well not closed, but roped off. Never mind, I could still see it from the sidewalk.
I can’t remember 9/11, I can’t tell you where I was or what I was doing when the horrifying events unfolded. I was just five years old when the event that made the world stand still and claimed thousands of lives took place. I cannot even begin to imagine what this area looked like on that day, but I can recognise how the event affected and continues to affect the city. The memorial is thought provoking, it’s somewhere that you visit and stop to think. Think about how lucky you are to not have gone through the terror and struggles of what these people, their friends and their loved ones went through and continue to live with. Tranquil and calm is how I’d describe the area surrounding this memorial. One day I’ll be back to visit the museum and spend more time here.
It was then time for dinner. We headed to Emily Loves Pizza using the subway, housed in this incredible building.
The pizza was top tier, but another massive portion! The beer was Well-Earned Pilsner by Bronx Brewey. A fittingly named beer, after a busy day of riding coasters and exploring NYC!
For post dinner drinks, we headed to Stonewall Inn.
It goes without saying that pubs should be safe spaces for everyone! This was a great bar! Fun music blasting, nice atmosphere and decent beer! I thought it was appropriate to have the Stonewall IPA!
We then headed back to the ferry, I’ll leave you with what might be the best photo I’ve ever taken.
