USA 24: 600 Not Out! Hersheypark

Hersheypark was awesome! Great coasters, great food and some great beer! We spent two days at this wonderful park, I’m glad we did as there were 15 creds to get! I just hoped that the rides were more enjoyable than Hershey chocolate!

We arrived for opening and joined the queue for Candymonium 599:

A newish B&M, where the first half is excellent and the second half is trimmed to death. Meh.

Wildcat’s Revenge 600:

Most of my milestone coasters are frankly rubbish, I never planned or expected to have an RMC as a milestone! Over the course of the two days we spent at Hersheypark, we rode this coaster around seven times. The slight issue I have with RMCs is that they’re often not very re-rideable, the restraints really hurt people with big thighs. Wildcat’s Revenge was one of the more re-rideable RMCs on this trip! It’s amazing! The zero G stall is my fave element! I loved this coaster, a more than worthy milestone! Let’s talk milestones for a moment. A milestone is obtained at every hundred coasters, 200, 300, etc. Most enthusiasts hold a sign of some of some kind for a photo, some submit these photos to the European Coaster Club to be posted in their magazine. My friend's have another tradition. The person with the highest coaster count gives a hand shake to the person who’s got the milestone:

Thanks Sue!

Weirdly a fellow enthusiast, from Birmingham UK, also got their 600th on this coaster!

Their sign might be slightly better than mine..

Lightning Racer (Lightning) 601:

One half of two racing coasters, Lightning was the only one to open on this day. I thought this side rough. That’s review!

Lunch was next one agenda!

The ribs were great! Honestly, it was awesome BBQ food!

The beer was nice! A fruity yet bitter NEIPA, right up my street!

We needed a more gentle ride post lunch, so we headed for Trailblazer 602:

I completely neglected to take a good photo of this ride. It’s a mine train coaster, not that you can tell from photo. Was ok.

Next up was Great Bear 603:

Unique Helix

We all know how much I love an invert, so I was excited for this one! The helix right at the start is unique and was fun. The rest of the coaster was decent but it’s not a top tier invert.

Sooperdooperlooper 604:

Bloody lamppost

This classic coaster was a lot of fun! I have a lot of time for Schwartzorf coasters! They age well and remain smooth. Great fun!

Skyrush 605:

Skyrush was one of the coasters I was most looking forward to on this trip. I’d be hearing about how good this coaster was for years, loads of my friends have ridden it and really rave about it. I headed for back row and expected good things. Honestly, it was awful. The first drop is ok at best and that’s the best bit. The rest of the ride is sea of roughness, no airtime and mediocrity. I was so annoyed, I was thinking about how everyone had said how great it was, how it’s in their top ten and in reality it was terrible. The ride has gone through a few changes and alterations, perhaps it can be put down to that. I rode it again in the second day and it was actually worse than my first ride.

Stormrunner 606:

Stormrunner was awesome! A front row ride is a must! The launch is punchy and the rest of the coaster is smooth!

Jolly Rancher Remix 607:

You don’t even get a rubbish photo of this one, I completely forgot to take one. It’s a green boomerang and was tolerated rather than enjoyed.

Fahrenheit 608:

Decent coaster and pretty smooth!

Laff Trakk 609:

A really themed Maurer spinner, that defo doesn’t feature any creepy clowns…

That was our last cred of day one! We headed out for some drinks, which I will write a separate blog about. Let’s get started in day 2!

Cocoa Cruiser 610:

I don’t even know why I took this photo. It’s a kiddie cred, plus 1 and done!

Wild Mouse 611:

Another Mack mouse!

Comet 612:

For some reason I was expecting this to be rough, but it wasn’t! It wasn’t much good, but at least it wasn’t rough.

Coal Cracker: 613

Before you say isn’t that a flume, it is a flume. It’s a flume that’s on coaster count. It’s a dubious count for sure, but I’m taking the plus 1.

Lightning Racer Thunder 614:

The other side opened! This side was much more enjoyable.

That concluded our time at Hersheypark. What an amazing theme park! A great selection of rides and coasters! I look forward to returning one day!

Thanks for reading.

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...
