The USA road trip continued to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which is home to Mad Moose Tavern! When I saw that there was a moose themed pub, I dragged everyone along for some food and beers!
We visited between our days at Hersheypark, and after a highly successful day of riding creds we had earned a beer or two! The Mad Moose Tavern did not disappoint! The theming was superb.
I started off with Daisy Cutter Pale brewed by Half Acre, from Chicago. It’s a west coaster pale, my fave, with a floral/ citrus bite to it! I then stuck to the west coast theme and had Super West Coast brewed by Funk Brewing, from Pennsylvania. Wow, this beer was something! A proper IPA at 7% ABV. It had the strong bitterness that I love from a west coast and is easily one the best examples of this style.
We fancied a little walk and happily I’d found another beer place to wonder to! The Sturges Speakeasy has been open for over a hundred years, according to the waiter, and originated as a brothel. The brothel is not longer open, I did ask. It was quite the place, dark inside and clearly not a touristy place.
The beer list is a mixture of things that you have and haven’t heard of.I started with Little ‘Nator by Tröegs Brewing, based down the road in Hershey. I’m always a bit apprehensive about American interpretations of German styles, by Tröegs have smashed it! It was one of the most delicious Bocks I’ve ever had! I stuck with Tröegs for my second beer, Dreamweaver Wheat. This was a lovely drop too. It combined the classic banana taste with some stubble spiciness.
We then called it a night, we had another full on coaster day to look forward to in the morning. Thanks for reading!
