I was really looking forward to my second visit to the Irish capital. There’s plenty of good Guinness, as long as you stay out of the Temple Bar pub! On this visit, I revisited some old favourites and made some new ones.
We kick things off in The Portobello (Richmond St South). It was right by our hotel and the kitchen was open.
I went in with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised! This was a strong 3.5/5 start to the trip. The food was pretty decent too!
We then made our way to The Guinness Storehouse. I visited here two years ago and enjoyed it. It’s a self guided tour, which showcases the ingredients, history and advertisement history of Guinness. You also get a tiny taster of overly chilled Guinness before you are sent up to the Gravity Bar for your free pint. On my previous visit you had a choice of Guinness, Cider, Hop House 13, and I think something else. This time it was a choice of Guinness, AF Guinness or Hop House 13. Soft drinks are also available and covered by the voucher you’re given.
I have found the Guinness here average (2/5) on both my visits. It’s honestly probably the worst Guinness I’ve had in Dublin.
We then made our way round the corner to Open Gate Brewery, a Guinness owned bar with a micro brewery.
I started with GOBG Nitro IPA, which was a little disappointing. The Dublin Porter was decent but not life changing. I finished with Guinness Foreign Export Stout, served on nitro, which was really good.
Brogans is a strong shout for the best Guinness in Dublin and therefore probably the world. Easily a 4.75-5/5 pint here. It’s a lovely pub.

Bowes Lounge was a decent little backstreet boozer. Guinness was a 3.75/5. We didn’t spent long here as I was itching to get to my favourite Dublin pub. I previously touted this place as the best Guinness in the world…
