Asia Adventure 25: Happy Valley and Culture!

Welcome back to the Asia Adventure series! This is the third instalment of the series and also the third time that I’m spoiling you with culture! We pick things up at Happy Valley Beijing, another park with its own metro station!

The first thing you see upon entering the park is Extreme Rusher, a massive air launched coaster that hasn’t operated since 2014. Thankfully some coasters were operating.

768: Family Inverted Coaster

Long time Beer Moose readers will know how much I love Inverted coasters made by Swiss manufacturer B&M (not the shop), as you’ve worked out from the name this is a tame and family friendly version of that model. It was a decent ride back row and had some good forces.

B&M make the best inverted coasters. Smooth, forceful and full of interesting elements. Dutch company Vekoma also make Inverted coasters and they are the opposite of everything I just said! Nevertheless,

769: Golden Wings Over The Snowfield

A name that just rolls off of the tongue

On this trip I made notes as I went along, I’d hate to have forgotten something important. I wrote a one word review for this coaster, vile.

Ready for more coasters with names that just roll off of the tongue?
770: Flight of The Himalayan Eagle Music Roller Coaster

See I wasn’t joking about the name

This coaster with a long name is classed a B&M Hyper Coaster but a bit like how Luke Skywalker was told he was too short to be a stormtrooper this coaster is only 157.5ft tall (RCDB, 2025), well under the usual 200ft plus requirement. Sure it rides smoothly but the lack of airtime was disappointing. Although perhaps the biggest disappointment was the soundtrack, despite having music in the name the only noise I heard going round was a lady shouting in Mandarin.

After yesterday’s mine train adventure we were spoilt with another one today! A proper Vekoma one too!
771: Jungle Racing

I didn’t take a photo of it so here is a photo of a sign. The coaster was fine.

We decided to do this boat ride on our way to Crystal Wing.

Let’s take a look at some scenes from Happy World:

Yay beer!

Yay beer!

Yay beer!

Wtf.

Crystal Wing.

Oh ffs

They decided to close it early and without warning, spite. Luckily I grabbed myself a questionable +1 on Flying Cake, a bonkers stand up disco style ride. 772!

Crystal Wing behind it

Coasters done for the day we headed to The Grand Canal, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site!

It was a bit busy!

The famous bridge.

View from the bridge

A slightly different view from the bridge!

On the other side of the bridge was a plethora of karaoke and music bars with people trying their best to draw you in. One man took a break from speaking mandarin to tell us “come in here the music is fucking good”. Sadly my assessment of music quality didn’t match his, we headed for food instead.

Black bean sauce is so good!

Crispy pork I think.

We then called it a day and went to sleep excited for one of the highlights of the trip. You’ll have to wait for the next blog for that, but here’s something to enjoy until then:

Thanks for reading!

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...
