Asia Adventure 25: Universal Beijing - A Water World That Features Stella

Universal Beijing was one of the parks that I was most looking forward to on this trip. The park is rumoured to be similar to what we can expect to find at Universal Great Britain (Bedford) when it eventually opens. WARNING THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!

The temperature was in the mid 30s so I’m glad that person wore a coat

As you exit the metro station you’re spat straight onto City Walk. We decided to grab some breakfast and much needed coffee.

I hate tomato

Breakfast eaten we joined a huge queue to enter the park and hoped that it wasn’t a sign of things to come.

Chaotic

But it was as the park was very busy.

The rush

We headed straight for Decepticoaster (773).

Launched!

Could have smiled for the photo mate

Decepticoaster is the same ride layout as The Hulk (I think) at Universal Studios Florida. I thought that it rode better than my last ride on Hulk as this was glass smooth. A decent coaster but not one that would trouble a top ten list.

We then headed round to the Jurassic Park area and joined a huge queue for the JP dark ride.

The middle section of the never ending queue

The ride vehicles

Ok so this is probably the best dark ride I’ve ever done! The animatronics were simply incredible! Lifelike, loud and the movement of them was like nothing I’d ever experienced. At one point we were hurdling backwards whilst being chased by a huge dino!! I’d love to ride it again! The only negative was that virtually everyone in our vehicle was filming on the ride and some even had their camera lights on…

Some might say that I’m always super silly

Ah Minion land home of those weird yellow things that everyone seems to love. It’s also home to Loop-Dee-Doop-Dee which a minion wouldn’t even be able to say.

774!

After the thrill of that coaster we decided to eat.

Dumplings and cheesy potato things

I ate a minion and it tasted good

Yep that’s Harry Potter land, as you can probably tell I no fan of HP. However there was a cred to get and we got it! Flight Of The Hippogriff (775). I neglected to take a photo of it….

After this we went to watch Water World. Now I’d heard amazing things about this show but haven’t seen the movie.

It has its own area but there isn’t really anything there

Water World was amazing! There was just so much going on! Boats, guns, fighting, mad things and even a plane!!

I’m mean seriously WTF

Easily the best theme park show I’ve ever seen!

We had one cred left to get….

It’s lurking inside….

It goes round and through this
Jurassic Flyers (776).

The queue line for this was immaculately themed which gave me high hopes for the ride to be the same, nope! Despite being called Jurassic Flyers you don’t see a single dinosaur instead you just mince around looking at rocks where a dinosaur could be placed. A real missed opportunity.

We visited the above as our last attraction. It is a sound stage with effects and a short show designed by two famous directions. I liked how this newish Universal park has an attraction which nods towards retired and ionic Universal attractions like Twister and Backdraft.

We decided to eat in City Walk and found a place which advertised beer and food, perfect! I’m glad that I can tolerate some spicy foods as basically everything here was super spicy!

As you can see the beer menu was presented on an iPad. There was also a special beer of the month which of course I asked about only to be told that it was Stella! Gosh that stuff just follows you around doesn’t it!

That concluded a busy but very enjoyable day at Universal Beijing.

Thanks for reading!

Supermarket Weep - Lidl

It’s been a while, but Supermarket Weep is back! The series where myself and some ‘lucky’ guests, try supermarket own brand beer and beers brewed specifically for supermarkets. In previous episodes we all went wild in the aisles of Tesco and Aldi. Welcome to Supermarket Weep - Lidl.  A piece of advice for you, don’t trust the terrible cupboard holders that these beers come in. I opted to go without a bag or a trolley and regretted that decision.  The beers all fell out of the cupboard and onto the floor. I stuffed my pockets with some of the beers, which caused my shorts to fall down. A new low for me is accidentally exposing myself in a Lidl… Trolley to the rescue! Ignore than BrewDog, that was for something else!  For this episode I was joined by friends of the blog, Dan and John. We kicked things off with Excelsior Lager, a French inspired beer. This was bad, like really bad. It’s a really watery beer, with a weird sweet taste. Awful.  Next up was San Marti...

2024 In Review & The Beer Moose Awards!

“Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time” sang Pink Floyd in 1973. They’re sort of right, each year feels shorter than the last. In fact, it does not feel like a year since I was last writing a blog like this one. Contary to what Pink Floyd said, I found time to do quite a lot in 2024! I rode a new personal best 211 rollercoasters! 2024 will remembered as a bit of a rollercoaster (sorry). Great heights and moments balanced by a devastating loss and a rather poor Cambridge United team. This blog is aiming to be a review of my year, with some awards thrown in! Let’s get into it!  January:  January started with an FA Cup tie, away to Blackburn. I decided that Blackburn was sort of near Liverpool, so like all good away days we made it into a pub weekend.  It was an absolute goal fest! Sadly, like most goal fests The U’s are involved with, it ended with United on the losing side. 5-2 Blackburn.  Golden bird I liked Liverpool, it’s a smart and nic...

Phantasialand - My Happy Place

Using the phrase happy place makes me feel a bit cringe, but I don’t really know how else to describe how much I love Phantasialand. If I close my eyes and think about where I’d most like to be in the world Phantasialand and The Abbey come straight to mind, and I know which one I’d have more fun in at the moment! Ever since my first visit back in 2016 I’ve been in love with Phantasialand and it was time to return after a two year absence. I couldn’t wait for two full days at Phantasialand! We pick this up following Moose On The Loose In Cologne ( Link! ) in snowy Brühl, around 20km south of Cologne. The sight of Brühl Schloss greets you as you exit the train station: UNESCO tick! The next morning we made the walk from the hotel to the park, just before this walk I was convinced to join Strava!  We arrived just before opening and received a golden welcome: The Berlin area Dragon Phantasialand has six dragons and now you’ve seen one of them! You may see more dragons later, but only i...
