Turning thirty felt like quite a big deal and as I entered the next decade of my life I wanted to do something to mark the occasion. Vienna seemed the obviously choice as it was home to some coasters, beers and lots of meals containing pork and potatoes! In the first part of the Vienna blog I’ll go through the coasters and rides at Wiener Prater. There’s a lot to get through so let’s get going!
We kicked things off on Hochschaubahn (count number 824) a wooden coaster built in 1950 to replace a coaster bombed during the war.

For what it is, it’s actually decent! Side friction but didn’t bounce around much!
Round the corner you’ll find Maskerade (825), a Gertslauer spinner situated inside a warehouse!

Wilde Maus (826).
Honestly I was happy to ride a mouse that doesn’t spin (though that treat comes later). All the trim brakes were off so it actually was a bit wild!
Gesengte Sau (827) is a shout for best coaster in the park! I can’t believe more parks don’t have one of these as they’re brilliant!
Well themed, smooth and has good drops, what more could one ask for?
Zug des Manitu (828) wait until you see this one:
I would honestly need an abacus to count how laps we got on this, it was a struggle to remember a time before riding it. Good value for money though.
Obviously one spinning coaster in a big shed isn’t enough as Prater has two! Insider (829). I didn’t take a photo but to be honest I’m sure you can imagine what a shed looks like. This coaster has a weird walkthrough to complete before riding, which included Batman and Darth Vader statues, because why not.
Now we get to the worst coasters in the park. Volare (830) kicks things off.
After recovering (does one ever truly recovery from a Volare) it was time for Roller Ball (831).
These things are absolute turd as well. They’re not rough but just feel like they’re going to fall over and have trim brakes so you actually move so slowly. The good thing about riding rubbish like these is that you ride them once and then they’re on your spreadsheet forever.
What delight was next I hear you ask? Boomerang (832) marvellous.
It’s about time we rode something good right? Wiener Looping (833).
Opening last year this Mack Rides Big Dipper was awesome! The brilliant first drop was followed by some forceful elements which all reminded me that coasters can actually be good and left things like the Volare as a distant memory (?nightmare).
Megablitz (834) was also really good!

Fast, forceful and compact. What more could one want.
Right we have two more to get through!
Race (835)
We got a decent spin on it and it even goes through an animal’s mouth for some reason, I think a cat but to be honest I can’t remember.
Prater is also home to some amazing other attractions, including its iconic ferris wheel.
I’d say it was worth €13 to ride the world’s oldest ferris wheel.
I’d also recommend riding this but I do not want to spoilt it, you’ll just have to trust me.
It was incredible.
Another reason for coming to Prater was to ride the not one but two Break Dances! As you may already know these are my fave rides! Let’s start with the brand new Break Dance 5! I hadn’t ridden one of these before and was so excited!
I was gutted. The cycle was ok and forceful but there was no music and that really killed the experience for me. The other Break Dance however…

Sometimes you just can’t beat the classics! This was so much better! I had three rides across our time at Prater and all three were brilliant and different! The music is such a vital part of these rides.
That’s my whistle stop tour of Wiener Prater! Part 2 of the blog will cover the food and beer we had! Cheers for reading, I’ll leave you with this slight shower issue:
